The night is slowly losing its darkness, and that is VERY BAD NEWS
A new study with the help of satellites has discovered that artificial lighting is spreading around the world and becoming brighter, producing more light pollution during the night, writes “Los Angeles Times”.
This worrying trend has consequences for the environment as well as for human health.
The researchers found that in the month of October each year from 2012-2016. the surface area of artificial light on Earth grew by about 2.2 percent a year, and total radiation by 1.8 percent. In addition, the outer areas that were already lit when the 2012 survey began also became brighter by 2.2 percent per year.
The fastest growth was in developing countries, ie in the regions of Asia, Africa and South America. Countries that are already brightly lit, such as the United States and Spain, have seemed stable. Only a small number of countries in the war, such as Yemen and Syria, have seen declining levels of artificial lighting.
But even in already stably lit countries, light levels are likely to rise, scientists say.
